cks writes a proposed change in the magic system. I have some questions of
my own about them.

1: You state the you have discovered what bugs you about the SR system. May I
ask why you don't like th "instaspell" phenomenom? Don't get me wrong; as
everyone else here can attest to, I'm no fan of magic in any game. I was just
wondering why you want to scale magic back so much.

2: What is your background explanation for the reduced effect of magic? You'd
have to considerably modify the background to compensate for magic being so
limited; 5 million mages walking around the globe has an effect on more than
the local spell component market.

3: You state at first that you don't like people casting spell left and right,
and then propose a method (albeit limited) for continuing that phenomenon.
Again, background explanation would be nice.

Do you have GURPS Magic? If not, see if you can get a copy to persue. It has
interesting ideas on variant magic. What you're proposing is to make SR a low-
mana world with Knacks (spells that are bough as powers).

I'm curious to see other responses, both yours and those of others.
