the southern states' experience during the American Civil War. Each state
printed its own money that was worth its face value within that state's
borders. As you moved farther away from the issuing state, the value of
your currency decreased (i.e., the odds of you going back to Virginia and
redeeming your dollar for "a dollar's worth of gold" grew increasingly
slim). So, if a corp doesn't have a big representation in an area, the way
is clear for small-time bosses to steal the show because their money is
"worth" more in that locality.
