Ummm... just to be a bit more precise, inertia has absolutely *nothing* to
do with gravity. Gravity is a fundamental force that exists between any two
objects that have mass; it causes said objects to be drawn towards each
other. Inertia is not a force, but a state of motion; an object that is
moving will continue to move in the same direction at the same speed unless
a force is applied, and an object at rest will continue to remain at rest
unless a force is applied. For an example of how gravitational force and
inertia cooperate, check any astronomy or physics text and look up "orbit".

It is my opinion that a Dead Zone *can't* exist, simply because of it's
nature. If none of the "Laws of Physics" function in a "Dead Zone"
then
*nothing* could survive. To wit, osmosis, the nature of a substance in
solution to penetrate a semi-permeable membrane to maintain equilibrium.
Common Law of Physics that any high school biology student learns. Without
osmosis, no cells could survive, which means no higher organisms could
survive. QED, and the Dead Zone vanishes in a puff of logic.
