Lemme rephrase that a bit. "If magic compensates for one law, why couldn't
it compensate for all of them?" Now we're getting to the point of having to
distinguish "technology" from "magic." But there isn't any difference,
not
really. Magic is what Science is currently incapable of understanding; but
aside from this there is no difference between the two.

But *why*. Let's put it this way. Any entity (or entities) capable of
messing with reality this way is pretty much omniscient ('cuz they have to
know more about the Universe and how it works than anyone to acutally pull
off a Dead Zone) and omnipotent (to actually be able to pull 'em off).
We're talking about the ultimate test of Chaos Theory here, one teeny
mistake and the Universe goes away.

Now, given that, all the "beneficial" entities aren't going to be doing
this simply because they don't want the Universe gone. All the "harmful"
ones could come up with far better (and easier!) ways to destroy the
Universe than this (and they would have done so by now :-). And finally,
the "tricksters" would have let it get far too out of hand and the Universe
would be gone by now, or the "benefical" entities would have stopped them
cold.

It can be shown that for any nutty theory, beyond-the-fringe political view or
strange religion there exists a proponent on the Net. The proof is left as an
exercise for your kill-file. --d9bertil@****.chalmers.se (Bertil Jonell)
