Subject: Cost of Spinal VCR's
Date: Sat, 26 Jun 1993 18:49:13 CDT
When dealing with the cost of the Spinal VCR's, I wonder, have
you been taking Street Index into account? The street index results in
an actual street value of the system being 80,000 NuYen (40,000 x 2) for
a rating 1 Spinal VCR and 450,000 NuYen (150,000 x 3) for a rating 2 VCR.
Normal VCR's cost 12,000 and 60,000 NuYen respectively. Do you really
consider these systems cheap? I mean, they cost around what you would
pay for an beta version of a normal VCR for less of a benefit and more
essence. Hardly a good buy for your money, but new tech is always in
and costs a lot. As time goes on, the street index would fall to a more
reasonable level, which is why I compared base prices.

Oh, I am sorry, I made a mistake. With street index, the normal
rating 2 VCR costs 75,000 NuYen, not 60,000. Still a far cry from 450,000
NuYen (which incidentally is the street cost of a level 3 VCR)

Now lat me get this straight... I have one person saying I made
the essence cost of the system too light, and one person saying I made
the essence cost of the system too heavy. What is the consensus? And
are people glad to see this system? I thought it was about time riggers
got some variety in their toys - everyone else did - but the acceleration
stuff in S-tech don't help in rigging - so I brought out this and the
rigger tactical computer. Now we have some spice. =)

And if you don't like the stats, let me know why. I will alter them
if someone picks up something I didn't consider or makes a good enough point,
and I really appreciate the input. However, if in the end, you still don't
like the stats, Change them. =) Won't hear me complaining.

As far as the essence costs, I'll put my opinions down here.
Technically, I could see arguements for decreasing the cost due to the
fact it is designed to be a low-invasive system, augmenting the spine
instead of the entire body, but I set the values where they are due to
the impact of augmenting the spine, and game balance. I didn't want to
make a better VCR persay, just an alternative. My last post shows the
rationale used for setting the essence values where they are.

I admit, in games where the Rigger doesn't use drones, it will
have a heck of an impact, but intelligent use of drones can be a life
saver
