A) Yes. BTW, this should clear up any question as to the use of the Combat
Pool, and by extrapolation, Control Pool. Shadowrun II, page 84, COMBAT POOL:

Dice from the Combat Pool may be allocated to *ANY* (emphasis mine
--Rat) offensive or defensive combat-related tests, such as Firearms,
Projectile Weapons, Throwing Weapons, Gunnery, Melee Combat, or similar
offensive Combat Skill Tests (see Success Tests, p.66).

B) No. The Rigger can, however, use Control Pool dice for the Resistance
Test. Shadowrun II, page 107, RESOLVING ACTIONS:

The driver may used dice from the Control Pool to assist the test
against any incoming attacks, but he may not use Control Pool dice to
help defend against magical combat spell attacks or the damage
resistance part of a Crash Test.
