OK, here we go...

The eye ((meta)human or cybered) cannot see sound as if it were in a
spectrum like IR and Thermo. The US reflections that are recieved by
the eye/goggle/reception unit are converted into a relevant picture.
Kind of like a topographical map, you know, a whole lot of lines. While
the character is using the US he wouldn't be able to read any non-raised
writing (grafitti or the like) and would have a very low chance of
actually recognizing anyone, except by body language.

Remember, you are not seeing the sound, only a representation of it.
