The 'Tommy Gun' IS chambered for the .45, which is actually around 11mm.
A 45 round magazine doesn't have to be hung vertically either; it could
be parallel to the barrel a la the HK G11.

The only criticism I have about this gun (as designed) is that I don't
think it should be given a gas vent 3; gas vent 2 at the most.
Considering it was designed for the military, they probably want
consistency rather than fiddly bits.
Generally, I think the guns as bought should have low ratings for gas
venting, and if the player wants a higher rating, let him/her take it
to a weapon smith to butcher the thing.
