In response to whoever asked: Getting a SIN is just like getting a
social security number. Most people are asssigned one at birth. In order to
get one, you'd probably need a valid birth certificate, etc. Of course, by
getting a real, honest to god, sin, the PC becomes a pawn of the
government/megacorps. The PC suddenly needs to pay income tax, etc. The
government will also want to know just where the PC is living, and crossing the
border on a real ID is just a BAD idea. Especially, if the 'runner has any
kind of rep. Basically, it's very easy to get a SIN. However, it becomes
difficult to lose it again.
Instead, what the PCs should do is talk to their fixer. For around
15KY or so, the fixer can probably set up a reasonable fake ID for each runner.
Of course, it won't survive a thorough inspection, but... Well, ya don't need
to tell the 'runners that... (Insert evil GM laughter here)
