Actually, its more like getting a SSN, bank account number, credit
account number, driver's license number, etc., all rolled into one.

Lots more than just that. If you weren't born in a hospital with
SINner parents, then it's pretty difficult to get one. What with all
the Shadowrunners out there with fake SINs, you'd think that the
gummint would be pretty careful about fake IDs :-).

Pawn? That's a bit too harsh. Slave is more like it :-).

Course, there are some benefits to being a SINner. You can work,
legally, to supplement your running income. You have a real bank
account somewhere, that collects interest. Just think of all the
mundane things that we take for granted today that you can't do
without a major credit card (big-ticket purchases, loans, rentals...).
