While we're on the topic... a witch, per se, is just a "wise woman".
Thus, having traditional male witches would be akward.

In popular terminology, witches and warlocks are just very nasty spellcasters
(with gender orientation, obviously).

IMHO, a lot of combat mages would like to be called a warlock, as it would
indicate they were powerful and feared.
