I must disagree in the strongest terms here.

Magic is easy until you blow a fuse then you need to pat your tummy
or it won't work- Geas.

And the material components still exist, they are called FETISHES.

I believe witches are alive and strong in shadowrun. And no they
are not hermetic, IMHO. But then again, they are shamanic in nature
but not necessarily following the indian totems.
