Meine Kamaraden:

Many have expressed their considerable dismay and displeasure regarding
the recent discussions (read: arguments) of politics upon the list. As I
recall, The Reverend requested that all entries into the poll he was conducting
were to be send to him privately, citing his wish NOT to clutter the list with
this non-salient material to the discussion of ShadowRun.

Some of the letters I have sympathized with, others I have not. Some
of you know me or enough about me to formulate an educated guess as to my
political alignment, and for those of you who are not equipped with such
information, I shall not risk having you break out in hives by mentioning it.

Remember that this entire thread developed due to the fact that one
list member, Doc X, I believe, was offended at the various attacks aimed at the
erstwhile president, Clinton, the controversy then spread from there. What
would serve as a good commentary regarding this would be a question Peter
Jennings (I believe) once asked Mark Russel, a rather well-known American
political satirist, "So, which is it easier to make fun of, Republicans or
Democrats?"

To which he wryly answered, "Yes! Actually, it all comes down to who
ever's in power."

I believe we have our answer. It is far easier to lampoon someone who
is actually doing, or attempting to do, something. Being the target of jokes
is one of the aspects of wielding authority in this country.
