In addition to everything else, having made a sword or two myself I don't
think it's possible.
A sword is composed of four basic parts:
Blade
Guard
Handle
Pommel
the blade includes a length of steel at the base, called a tang. The guard is
slid on over the tang to the base, followed by the handle. Then the pommel is
screwed on the end of the tang to hold the guard and handle in place, and to
act as a balance against the blade.
There is no way to put a dagger into the handle of a sword made that way.
Now, Jananese swords are made in a different fasion.
BTW, a bastard sword, by definition, has a blade length between 37 inches and
47 inches. Bloody difficult to hide when you're walking down the street. Not
very wieldy either. I'd say it would require an action to recover before
swinging again.
Tell your physad player to get a life.
