he's supposed to be an average Joe-why the firearms, tactics, etc that he
picked up? My impression was a normal character. Firearms, sure (from hunting,
or more likely concentrated in pistol for self-defense) if he has it at all.

I thought the premise was reversed: The corp crewed him. NOW he's out for
revenge, and may or may not have followers.

I pictured him as more a former wage-slave or lowest-level management; the
guy in charge of document-pusher office A, or a prominent franchise outline
("he used to push Stuffers. . .until Stuffers pushed him out"). Your
interpretation sounds more like Robbin' Hood.
Just my take.
