The aluminum came in play with the can. But you're right, metal detectors
don't work with x-rays, as someone else already said (imagine, if you
work in a building that uses x-rays to detect metal, you'd die of cancer
after a few years or so...). They work using magnetic fields, so in order
to detect something, that something must be able to get magnetic.
