I don't have my books with me, but it's my understanding that
the shaman's personality will only match with one type of totem.
Ie shaman X has a personality like DOG. So DOG takes him.
Since the totems are all different it shouldn't happen. Because
if a potential shaman's personality was geared towards more than one
totem, would not those totems then have to be the same totem?
I know it's a bit strange if it doesn't make since I'll post again
when I get home from work and get a looksie at me' books.
