Wouldn't happen. The reason is that totems don't work like that. There isn't a
big lottery off on some metaplane where all the totems get together and argue
over which shamans from the pool they get to choose from. I see the totem
already determined for the shaman at birth... much like the color of their
eyes or other genetic characteristics are predetermined.

So it would not happen. The shaman either goes with that totem, ot denies his
magic entirely. Most shamans take the first path.

I can't think of anything to add to that... so I'll shut up.
