Generally, when my groups have had to get past weapons detectors it
was in situations where we couldn't just disable or kill the guards.
If killing them won't set off alarms (perhaps they're unmonitored,
but the scanners they're watching are tied into building security
systems), go for it.

To steal from Slippery Jim DiGriz, never go through the safe door
when you can cut a hole in the unwatched wall right next to it.
[Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat stories are well worth reading,
if only for the attitude he conveys.]
