Precedent dictates that the vampiric essence bonus *does*
affect their magic attribute. I would refer you (and anyone
else who may be interested) to look at Nemesis, from the
Module "Total Eclipse" he is not an initiate, and has an
essence of 10, and also a magic attribute of 10.
