Was this AI truly self aware?, did it have the capability of replication?

It struck me as being fairly limited (it seemed unable to realize that the 'real'
world of Dodgers existed), and it even admitted that it came about through
an acident, Dodger and Sam's entry into the Renruku system. It
acknowledged 'kinship' to the SNK's (sp??, you know those big black
samuri that trashed the system she/it and Dodger were in).

In Short was it an AI, and if so what is an AI???
