Why even connect the phone control system to the matrix? They could
just as easely have a seperate off line system to handle the functioning
behind the calls.

Why not just use a different phone? The corp could easily reroute the
calls that would normaly go to Mr X's phone to the new number. Not to
mention that the corp could even run its own phone company.
While this discussion is interesting I feel that it shouldn't play too much
of a role in SR, remember SR is not 'real life'. If it was then there would be
no way that runners could ever survive if a corp was real after them. I'd
ignore details like this, they would simply get in the way of a good role
playing session.
