sorry that was supposed to be reply

LB == laughing boy

LB i posted this railgun query originally in the hopes to get input from other
members on the workings of a railgun. I'm interested in making a small model
rail-gun and possibly writing a paper on it, with of course _major_ refernces
to the members of this list. I found this list 1) to be the most informative
on technological issuses, 2) possibly the fastest way to find something ;)

this is what i love about the information age and i belive that pioneers like
OFL will be there on the forefront of this for the rest of their natural lives.
I am trying to get my self up on the virtual surf board and surf the electron
seas...not just for fun.. but to spread this wealth of knowledge to everyone.

ok back to the railgun/ammo topic...i could care less about ammo becuase the
kinetic energy imparted by a projectile from one of these weapons is
devastating....as for incorporating them into shadowrun....F***ing forget
it...my friend did something similar to battletech by fa$a...he created a
"weapon" called the IGR (Inferno Gauss Rifle)...the principle was simple or so
we (read as other players) thought when he created the rules for it...the
principle was that the IGR would 'tap' some plasma off the reactor and feed it
into a 'molded' piece of armor (1 ton in a critical spot) that would then be
loaded into the gauss gun and fired..originally it was nice but it did 20 pts
of damage _but_ if it penetrated you risked 5 instant criticals from plasma
being 'splashed' all over the place internally....well to say the least that
got dumped as being munchkinous becuase those rules seemed to morph at will or
as the situation demanded for his benefit...and what we failed to notice was
that there was no risk to his mech from internal damage.....i would _not_
personally let this type of equipment into the hands of most pc's....

I had on the other hand redesigned an srm-4 pack into an FAE like a "Daisy
Cutter", the thing was just plain dangerous in both directions due to the fact
that if there was a critical hit all that fuel were to get hit *bang* even case
wouldn't wanna touch that...on the other hand the shock waves and thermal
damage was equivalent to getting hit with 2 AC-20 rds plus 5 piloting
checks...the drawbacks were limited range, fueling times, and a targeting...i
adapted scattering rules from shadowrun for it....tried it once in 'the caves'
from solaris VI and ended up roasting myself in the blast channeled along with
over pressure effects from it (adapted again from shadowrun) very nasty
indeed...

as to the magic quickening i have just deleted those letters as wasted band
width....:-)...I don't screw with magic due to the fact that i have not even
read the rules fully on them.....:)
