Neal Stephenson's got a damn good book out by the title, Snow Crash.
I would recommend it to any shadowrunner.

It has one of the best concepts of the matrix that I've seen yet.
There's a great rigger who cannot physically function outside of the
lifesupport system in his van, so his lives in the metaverse
(Stephenson's version of the matrix.) The main character is a great
guy by the name of Hiro Protagonist who was one of the creators of
the metaverse but now is a Deliverator (a professional combat pizza
deliveryman.) You've also got couriers on cyber skateboards cruising
the freeways by harpooning cars. You've got a villain with
electrodes wired into his head so that if he dies, a nuke goes off.
You've got Mafia, Feds, heavy metal bands, corporations, and an
ancient mystical computer virus created by the Sumerians around the
time of the fall of the tower of Babylon.

And much more. You've gotta read it to believe it.
