Project THOR was self guided on Orbital designation. It used
laser guidance from Orbit/ground designator to aquire the target.
The TANK has to spot the illumination first, them try and break
the lock with Smoke/Laser Aerosols/reflective chaff AND run away
before the rocket boosted iron bar impacts.
You need to redesign the tanks sensor/countermeasure sysytems to
cope with this, and it'll still allow you to flush out tanks
that try and take cover (move into killing zone or get thored.
some choice)

MassDrivers.
The massdriver can loft rounds at railgun speed and ROF,
allowing it to pummel any groundside target into the mantle,
even if you lauch nuclear weapons to intercept.
(And you've got to have nuclear weapons able to intercept, as
most current Nukes are suborbital only. Noone has made any
spacetargeting ones yet, and are unlikely to in the future.)
Also.
X Ray lasers dont work.
the StarWArs research showed that the X Ray laser program was a
bit to a white elephant. You can't get the energy to do weapons
aplications with any sort of effeciency.
You do more damage by detonation of a low orbit nuke... cos the
Blasts EMP will effect all targets to the horison. (See the
British ministry of Defence/ National Health Service
documentation on proposed russian nuclear strikes on the west
midlands. It has a chapter proposing the EMP pulse effect
raduis. i can't remember the figures, but it could kill half of
the US East coasts electronics with one small bomb.)
And all in the pulse, remember that the Induced EMF is
proportional to the lenght of conductor in the feild. Power
cables get BIG surges and crashes the GRID, personal computers
fry and household electronics fuse. Cybernetics generate
microEMF's that are still enough to make a mess of your nervous
system (and EMP hardening all your internal conductors with
Faraday cages or Semiconductor coats is EXPENSIVE!)
