On the vampire topic--We have always worked with the concept
that the magic rating of a vampire rises and falls with changes in
essence. Therefore, a fully fed (2054, a very good year) vampire
would posess a rating of 12 in magic. Imagine if he/she's been in a
group for, oh, 300 years, regularly raising his power. Also--how is
drain going to effect a vampire? Ever try to knock a dead person
unconscious? (PLEASE don't answer yes to that question). Granted,
these are the domain of the GM.
