I read an article on that in one of the magazines written for
businessmen who'd like to be computer geeks (I'm not a businessman,
though my geekdom is still likely, but the article was still a good
read.) Using current mass-market cellular technology, the fastest normal
modem connection you could get is about 2400 baud -- and that's on a good
day, with heavy error correction.
Full-graphics virtual reality is impossible at speeds that slow.
