Subject: RULES :- CONCEALABILITY
Date: Fri, 2 Jun 1995 11:46:49 BST
Here's part II - general and ammo concealability :-

VISUAL PERCEPTION
OK, we all know that the concealability rules in SR are a little bit dodgy,
right chummer? Especially when you're using the rules from the Neo A's Guide to
Real Life regarding searching someone. If you only give them a brisk pat-down -
ie 3-5 seconds worth - then you get +1 to your Perception check TNo to find
their hidden Ceska! You penalise yourself by frisking them, rather than just
looking?

FIX :- Use the Physical Search table for visual searches, but at +1 Tno's, and
you can get no better than

All visual perception checks to find weapons are at +1 TNo, and in special
cases (looking only from the front, weapon hidden at back), the GM can rule the
weapon will not be found at all. It is not possible to get the 'fraggin near a
strip-search modifier or greater when using only your eyes (no matter how hard
the players try).

AMMO CONCEALABILITY
OK, we know SR ammo weighs too much, and a friend tells me that they've got
over the initial problems with Caseless ammo not surviving well in the wet. But
also who believes that HMG ammo is as small, and easy to conceal as the dinky
rounds in your hold-out? It should also be harder to get hold of (eg. a higher
TNo for the availability check) In the case of caseless rounds, they should be
slightly smaller (same amount of propellant, and no case), as well as lighter.

Avail Conc Baseline concealability is 8, for a round the size of
Hold-Out 0 +2 a heavy pistol or SMG round. Hold-out rounds are a lot
Light Pistol -1 +1 smaller, light pistol rounds are very concealable, and
Heavy Pistol 0 0 easy to come by, as are sports rifle rounds, but
Sports Rifle -1 0 shotgun rounds are very bulky.
Shotgun 0 -1
SMG +1 0 All security-grade (auto-fire) rounds are hard to come
Assault Rifle +1 -1 by, and are not too concealable.
LMG +1 -1
MMG +3 -2 For cased rounds, concealability is -1 per ten rounds
HMG +3 -2 after the first ten, for caseless -1 per twelve.
Sniper Rifle +3 -1

CASE-TELESCOPED ROUNDS
For reduced volume, larger rounds (Assault rifle or larger (?)), the round is
recessed within the case, reducing the overall length of the ammunition. For
+5% cost, +1 avaialability, case-telescoped rounds add +1 concealability.

CASELESS V1 and V2
SR caseless rounds are more expensive than their cased buddies, why? By 2050,
the cost should be the same? I propose that older caseless V1 rounds are the
same price, but are vulnerable to water, and are at -1 Concealability vs chem-
sniffer weapon scanners. V2 rounds are only as vulnerable to water as normal
cased rounds, and are no less concealable to chem-sniffers. Both caseless ammo
types should have +1 concealability vs MAD scanners, due to the lack of a metal
case.
