The Glock 18 is a 9mm automatic firing full-auto: the Russian Stechkin
likewise: and there was a vogue in the 1920s for Mauser Broomhandles
with extended magazines firing automatic-only.
Having experienced a runaway pistol on the range, I can testify that
a .38 Super automatic, fitted with every recoil compensator available
today (muzzle weight, compensator, Shock-Tek buffers) and fired in
six-to-ten round bursts by experts (as well as me) threw about 120 rounds
down the range, at a man-size target at a range of 20 yards. At the end
there were maybe twenty holes in the target and the pistol had cracked its
swinging link: another magazine or two and it would have needed a gunsmith
to put back in action.
Let your players do it. Oh, yes. Let them. Muaahaahahaha!!!
In the UK at least, the runaway happened as a result of a mechanical
breakage: to carry this out deliberately would get you several years in
jail for producing a Section One firearm without authority.
After the players get tired of shooting APDS into the ceiling with every
burst, let the survivors buy new guns and be happy with them ;-)

When you have shot and killed a man, you have defined your attitude towards
him. You have offered a definite answer to a definite problem. For better
or for worse, you have acted decisively.
In fact, the next move is up to him.
