We've been doing this ever since the first time some one in D&D said "let's
split up." We had a big room so they just went to the other end and thus
the "Bad Table" was born. Now that we play in folks' apartments, we just
make the lost lambs go into another room whenever constant communication
isn't possible.
An aside to Jeff: are you really in search of SR games in Austin?
