This kinda bugged me too.. Its important as the TN mods are sometimes much
better for a natural system. If you subscribe to the theory that vison
enhancement is all magical, then it shouldn't matter, as you pay essence and
integrat the cyber into your magical aura. This seems reasonable, as a mage
with cyber replacement eyes can still assence (OK, maybe that isn't eye
dependant).
On the other hand, the race descriptions talk about "preponderence of rods
over cones" and other stuff, so if you yank out your god given metahuman retina
(say, cyber replacement), then you lose this natural system. Certain mods
would pose no problem- optical magnification, flare compensation for certain,
maybe retinal overlays like low light or thermo (which would almost never pose
a benifit except for orks and elves getting thermo). It comes down to a
series of judgement calls, so it is easier just to let metas keep thier
original systems (which is, i think, in fitting with FASA's npc descriptions).
