I agree with you completely, in our group the only function we
use the etti-quetty skills for is to know who is who, how to act, and
the social postion, current wealth, influence, power (and how far we
can push them) of the individual. The rest comes down to plain
roleplaying and conversation. In fact some of our most memorable
games have been the non-combat, conversing with 'so and so'.
