Yep, that's why we hate it so much :).
But seriously: The greatest problem I have with munchkins is that
they try to frag up the level of realism in your game.
Only in real life munchkinism wouldn't work because you'll have
to obey the rules. You cannot just get a mega-plasma rifle just because
you think you have a physics skill of 15 and bought a super lab worth
30 MY, or scream at a ganger who hoses you down with a SMG "ha, I'm
immune to bullets and I've got hardened armour"... Well you can try,
but I won't think you'll get much farther than the "ha, I'm...aalrlrlgh" bit :)

Real life personages are far from munchkins. Everybody has it's
weaknesses and most people are not after WorldPower(tm).
Some people strife to get power, but they do it the hard way. Fight
for years and once they got it, they still need to fight off the people
under them. That's not munchkinism, that's dedication (and kinda
silly IMveryHO :). Munchkins just want it all for free, and expect things
to happen just because they think it should happen. There may be
people who think that way in real, but they either wake up or they
dream on.

Only lawyers qualify as mega-munchkins in my eyes, they warp the
rules to get the greatest possible advantage ;) (yeah, I know, another
lame lawyer joke, but I've just watched Jay Leno, so that's why :)
