Actually the reason I brought the quote up is because a friend of mine who Gms
shadow run was kicking around the idea of allowing Characters to buy pack lost
essence. Nothing much ever came
from it but recently I've been thinking about it and IMHO it is reasonable to do so
under a given set of circumstances. Of course I'll tell you what they are. Thanks for
asking : ^ )
1) The point conversion is 10 Karma per .1 (thats zero point one) essence
recovered.
2) Essence can only be replaced if something is removed such as yanking out a
smartlink (assuming it's not a alpha/beta/delta grade) you can replace up to .5
essence that way. If it was a grade of cyberware then you could replace up to the
equivelent essence (i.e. .4 for Alpha, .3 for Beta etc....)
3) The essence only goes back at the rate of .1/week so the above example would
actually occur of a 5 week period. However it only starts after the character has
FULLY recovered from what ever woulds he suffered during surgery.

The reason I came up with this is to make it easier for Characters to Upgrade
Cyberware such as going from say generic smartgunlink to a alpha/beta version of
the same. The philosophy behind this is that the body will tend to regenerate itself
back to what it used to be. Also note that I would not allow someone to recover
essence for having a cyberlimb removed.

Here is a question regarding limb replacements and such. Suppose that Joe
Samari gets an arm blown off for what ever reason (assuming it was uncybered) he
doesn't lose any essence and as long as he has it replaced with an organic he
shouldn't lose any essence. What disturbs me about this is the fact that any (even
second hand parts) will keep you from losing essence. Yea, yea, the risk of rejection
and failure go up the worse it is so why bother. While on the other hand the Mage
Must replace the lost limb with clonal parts or lose a point from his magic rating (until
he gets a cloned limb put on).
Perphaps it's just me but I think that losing a limb and getting it replaced by
anything but a Clonal limb would cost anyone essence regardless of Mage or non
Mage status. I find it somewhat inconsistant that you can loose both your legs not
have them replaced and continue to have a 6 essence and cast spells. Yea, I know
you've got really restricted mobility but hey get a spell lock and create a levitate
spell to put into it.

Jeff

P.S. Yes, I also have a problem with essence cost for mages with Bioware but that
would be another post.
