According to the Grimoire, the difference is as follows: the
Poisoner is a toxic shaman bent on the destruction of all that is natural
and good. He or she seeks to twist and pollute (or "poison" if you will)
nature to serve his or her own presumably nefarious ends.
The Avenger, on the other hand, is someone who is disgusted at
humanity's wanton destruction of nature. However, in a twisted leap of
logic, the Avenger has decided to "fight fire with fire." This type of
toxic shaman will use toxic spirits and hostile magics to punish those
who cause harm to nature, to "avenge" the wrongs that humanity has
inflicted on the environment.
So in the end, both use the same methods. The only difference is
their motivation.
