The Essence whack you take from cyber isn't necessarily related to the
amount of chrome, but to its invasiveness, and how much it alters your
body's True Pattern. Yeah, I also play Earthdawn. Look at the Essence hit
from various items. The smartlink doesn't put any more chrome volume-wise
in your body than a datajack, but it's a .5 as opposed to a .2 (for a
vanilla SR datajack, not an enhanced jack). The smartlink sticks wires into
more regions of your body, and instead of just providing an I/O port for
your head, actually interfaces with your sensorium. It's more invasive, and
does more to alter the way your body functions, therefore there's a bigger
Essence hit. The organic wires could be treated as high-grade cyber, but
the invasiveness of the system would remain the same.
