The effects of this depend totally on roleplaying, both of the
release, the reasons for it and what has happenned since it was
conjoured.

By the rules the spirit is free to just go, to the real world or back
to its home plain.

Ok my opinions on what should happen/could happen.
Assuming that the shaman has treated the ally well and set it free
because she was thinking of what the spirit might want now its been
here long enough to lern about the world she probably should get a
few roleplaying points, after all that ally will have cost heaps to
buy origonally.
The other matter is will the spirit return (quickely or after a while)
as a companion to the shaman, very likely if it was well treated and
had become more of a friend for the GM (you) or her to roleplay than
a tool to be used. If so this could be interesting but the
roleplaying needs to deserve it as friendly free spirts are VERY
powerful friends.
If she annoyed it (unlikely, she would have banished it not freed it,
but i don't know the background) it could return for revenge.
