In our campaign the mages try to keep the old elementals around for learning
reasons.
We treat new elementals as a tabula rasa - blank slate for the mage to begin
forming.
As an elemental stays with a mage, it learns more about that mage.
The longer one stays in service, the more like a "real person" it becomes.
Chaos keeps his fire el. around because it is no longer just a fire el. It's
Cindy, and hse has become a valuable part of the team. He no longer has to
explain to her what a cyberdeck is, because through experience she has
learned something about technology.
