That is exp[lained in one of the books, but I don't remember where though....

It is because the mage has paid the essence coast for the eyes, and as such,
the eyes are considered "natural". Also, I think it has something to do
with the nature of astral perception. AP, IMHO, uses the mind to see more
than the actual eyes themselves...
