Sounds about right.

I thought the shaman in the example was trying to bind a free spirit, not
conjure a "new" one that happened to break free. So the shaman could have
told the physad the true name, or maybe she heard it when the shaman used
it to call the spirit, which would have given her the ability to use it to
bind the spirit.
