My Gm, and I also, have two standing rules when it comes to Gaming.

A) Put on a good show, and fate will smile upon you. Bore me and you die.

B) Why kill the players when it is SOOOOOOOO much more fun to leave them
alive and torcher them.

And in the case of the Chute... Not flaming but that's really lame. I
would probably never play in a campaign if my character died in such a lame
way as a failed chute opening on a random check... Make him panic for a
second or too though...

Although I have seen two characters die in a situation like that. There
chutes, however were sabotaged by a couple other members of the party
though... One wnet gracefully, and even made it amusing by diving headfirst
toward the ground and corkscrewing a bit... The other was a riger, and
after a few stupendous rolls, managed to call a drone over to him....
However, my mage, who was in on it, blew drone up with a fire elemental
hitting the gas tank...:)
