Well, not that I'd say such a thing of course, but my wife (dear sweet
soul that she was when I married her), has been playing Shadowrun for
about three years now, and the game has turned her into a gun nut. I
can safely say that the game did have this influence on her, as she
hated the things before, and made sure mine was locked away safely in
the attic. Now we have 8, 7 of them hers. Oh dear......

Guns make people behave better.
Scenario 1
For example, you walk into a bar and there's a complete geek
(trainspotter in England) standing near the music machine, looking for
something by James Last. A few comments are made, and a few laughs at
his expense and the evening goes on.

Scenario 2
For example, you walk into a bar and there's a complete geek
(trainspotter in England) standing near the music machine, looking for
something by James Last. He's wearing a gun (probably doesn't know how
to use it, but... A few comments aren't made, and a few laughs are not
at his expense and the evening goes on.

This leads me on to a question. Why do Shadowrunners so often resort to
gunplay? There is no possible way they can predict the other person's
profficiency with their weapon, and may be starting the end of their
lives. My players have learned this lesson and a firefight is a last
resort these days, but it seems many haven't - yet.

Remember, it's not the professional gunfighter who'll get you, it's the
geek with the bifocal coke bottles and the flasher mac, you know, the
one with the plastic bag who lurks near the Dr.Who/Star Trek books
chuckling to himself as he paws through the pages. He's not nuts, he's
an amateur, and they are the most unpredictable and dangerous type of
person around.
