I wasn't here for that one but I have been for previous ones, the outcome
of which is on my WWW site under teh title The Divide.

The reason I remember teh LOS rule was because ages ago I came up with teh
idea of grounding INTO teh astral.

e.g. PCs have split into two groups teh mundanes are checking out a house
when they are attacked by a bunch of elementals under teh control of an
astral mage.

Meanwhile across town teh PC shaman has found teh physical body of teh
mage. He finds out somehow his mates are in trouble and so casts a
Powerball into teh mages physical body, with teh intention of it grounding
out across town into teh astral plane and hosing teh mage and teh
elementals.

Teh result is he takes out teh mage, but not teh elementals as he doesn't
have LOS to them. However because teh elementals don't have anyone to
control them now (out of LOS of mage to control) they leave giving teh PCs
teh chance to escape.

Now whether the surrounding area of teh mage's physical body is affected
by teh Powerball is debateable as teh whole idea of grounding into astral
space is new.

Anyway enough waffle :)
