I read it as being that "sniper rifles" were low-velocity high-calibre
weapons firing .655in bullets at subsonic velocities. Thus, capable of
being silenced, massive damage, but short range (subsonic rounds have
ludicrously high trajectories at distance).
There isn't an equivalent of a modern sniper rifle unless you use a HMG
on single shot :)
Yes, it is sort of ludicrous, but then so is the maximum range on the
Light Machine Gun: LMGs fire the same ammo as assault rifles from
longer, heavier barrels, so why do they have half the range?
