Hmm...I hardly claim that I am an expect at anything having to do with
firearms, but isn't the silencer designed to bleed off gas so the bullet
is subsonic. Usually needs sub-sonic rounds to be very effective, except
with very small rounds (ie .22). Read somewhere that the only truely
silencer weapon is a single shot .22 pistol.

Concerning bullet speed. Fast is nice, at least so I am told. US
military switched to the 5.56mm because it was a much higher velocity
bullet. Has a flatter trajectory and more kinetic energy. Of course,
5.56 is designed to preferably wound, not kill, since is wounded enemy is
more of a drag on the war effort than a dead one. The barret (.50 cal
sniper rifle used by the SEALS) is definately a high velocity weapon. THe
slug has an incredable amount of powder behind it. It is definatly, to my
best knowledge, not silenced, or even close, but I could be wrong. The
weapon is designed for shots greater than 1k. Sound doesn't matter at
that range. Much more dangerous was the sparks killed up by the bipod
footpads as they slid along the ground after a shot. They had to redign
it, cause the sparks would give the counter-snipers an accurate location
to snipe at.
