Oh that's exactly how I pictured it! :-)
Only the PC can hear the voices in his head!
A particularly strong ancestor might be able to possess the body and speak
through it, but I'd make that rather uncommon.

Either way, depending on the GM.
I'm planning to work up a random chart to let players roll for their
ancestors, but there's no reason they couldn't choose as long as the
munchkins don't all pick ancient vampire mage/gods.
