Well, In the 2 campaigns I am in, the GM's allow you to speak your
native tongue at Int +2, and they allow you to spend up to your Int in
additional hobby or language skills. Thus, if your Int is a 5, you have
a 7 skill rating in speaking your native tongue, and 5 points that can
be used toward a second language, checkers, chess, or what have you.
In one game, I have a Shaman who has a skill of 5 in playing Go. A
decent rating (seeing as a 4 in any skill is considered professional).
In another campaign, I have a beefy street sam who has a Pottery skill
of 5....but few people know it. And the ones that do don't make fun of
him about it.....to his face, anyway. ;) (He started with a skill of
4, but it was the first skill he raised.) See, I'm not a munchkin. ;)
Justin :)
