The general rule we use in our game is that the invisibility extends as
far as the person's aura, ie. about 6 inches beyond their body.
The other thing we use is that invisibility only works on incident
light. It does nothing about light sources within the spell's area.
Thus, any torch or flame you're holding can still be seen. So can your body
heat, because that's essentially a light source. That makes muzzle
flashes visible under the same rule.
It should be noted that invisiblity spells are not perfect, and have
imperfections in the coverage, which is why you get the perception test
to notice them.
