Earthdawn, FASA's fantasy RPG, is set in the Fourth World, so this is
where the immortal elves come from. Spellcasting in ED works different
than in SR, and because of the much higher mana level spells can bemuch
more powerful. Most don't require the caster to pay attention to them
after they've been cast (which often takes longer than in SR), so it
wouldn't be a problem.

Another solution would be to lock or quicken the spell; since there are
hardly any magicians around, the danger of someone grounding through the
lock or spotting the quickening. And even those magicians that are around
would need a lot mroe effort than in the Sixth World to cast spells with
any effectiveness.
