A datajack can substitute for a keyboard, it's not just used for ASIST
communication. You can jack into your pocket sec if you want to, etc., you can
jack into a Smartgun (if you have the headware for a smartgun) rather than use
the palm induction link, you can even control a suitably modified car with one
(cf. RBB1). A datajack has a lot of uses that have nothing to do with
overriding one's senses for 'decking'.
But if you don't want to use VR/decking, you type in addresses, and give
passcodes as needed, and watch a screen (much like today); the VR way is just
much faster, especially with a datajack.
